ABSTRACT

Acute and chronic infection of sinus could expand to orbital cavity. As the technique and equipment of endoscopic surgery are getting popular and renewal, endoscopic sinus surgery is being used widely and profoundly, which improves the surgical effect of nose and sinus diseases greatly. However, the complications are not decreased rather than traditional surgery. The rate of orbital complication is the highest of all endoscopic sinus surgery. This paper present a case report about orbital complication due to sinusitis or endoscopic sinus surgery and related literature were reviewed.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the influence of nasal washing with Bidouguan Perfusate (BP) on nasal mucosal cytokines of nasal polyp patients after operation. Methods Thirty-nine nasal polyp patients were randomized into BP group ( N=18) and normal saline group ( N=21). All patients received operation for nasal polyp and postoperative comprehensive treatment, and additionally, BP group was given washing with BP and normal saline group was washed with 0.9%normal saline for 3 months. The scores of SNOT-20 and Lund-Kennedy were observed for the evaluation of therapeutic effect. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay ( ELISA) was used for detection of interleukin 5 (IL-5), interleukin 8 (IL-8), interleukin 10 (IL-10), interferon gamma (IFN-γ), granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) in nasal mucosa before operation and 3 months after operation. Results ( 1) SNOT-20 and Lund-Kennedy scores were decreased after operation ( P 0.05). ( 2) The expression levels of IL-5, IL-8, IL-10, IFN-γ, TNF-αand GM-CSF in the nasal mucosa were decreased in both groups 3 months after operation (P0.05). Conclusion Nasal washing with BP has similar effect to normal saline on improving the quality of life and nasal mucosal histology 3 months after operation, but BP has better effect on regulating nasal mucosal IL-5, IL-8, IL-10 and IFN-γ.

ABSTRACT

Immunohisto-chemical S-P method was used to examine the expression of E-cadherin,Vimentin and TGF-β1 in 54 cases oral carcinoma and 10 cases of normal oral mucosa. The positive rates of the expression of E-cadherin,Vimentin and TGF-β1 were 55.6%, 33.33% and 59.3%,respectively in oral carcinoma group(vs normal oral mucosa,P <0.05).The expression of TGF-β1 was correlated with lymph node metastasis, and showed significant positive correlation with Vimentin.Epithelial-mesenchymal transition may promote inva-sion and metastasis of oral carcinoma, and TGF-β1 promotes EMT.

ABSTRACT

Giardia lamblia is recognized as one of the most prevalent parasites in dogs. The present study aimed to establish a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for rapid and specific detection of G. lamblia from dogs. The fecal samples were collected and prepared for microscopic analysis, and then the genomic DNA was extracted directly from purified cysts. The concentration of DNA samples of G. lamblia were diluted by 10-fold serially ranging from 10(-1) to 10(-5) ng/microl for LAMP and PCR assays. The LAMP assay allows the amplification to be finished within 60 min under isothermal conditions of 63degrees C by employing 6 oligonucleotide primers designed based on G. lamblia elongation factor 1 alpha (EF1alpha) gene sequence. Our tests showed that the specific amplification products were obtained only with G. lamblia, while no amplification products were detected with DNA of other related protozoans. Sensitivity evaluation indicated that the LAMP assay was sensitive 10 times more than PCR. It is concluded that LAMP is a rapid, highly sensitive and specific DNA amplification technique for detection of G. lamblia, which has implications for effective control and prevention of giardiasis.

ABSTRACT

AIM:To gain the molecular mechanism of active ingredients of EGb 761(ginkgo flavones and ginkgo lides) for the inhibition against A?_(1-42) aggregation and fibrogenesis.METHODS:Circular dichroism spectra(CD) and FI-IR were used to curve-fit and analyze the change in A?_(1-42) second structure under A? aged condition and intervention of ginkgo flavones and ginkgo lides.RESULTS:Analysis that was made of 1700-1600 m(-1) amide-Ⅰ-band and curve fitting indicated that after 30 min to 72-incubation,increase of ?-sheet in A?_(1-42) by(18.5%),but the reduction of ?-sheet by(50.95%) and(36.09%) in 72 h incubation with ginko flavones and ginkgo lides, respectively. And increase of ?-turn by(56.56%) and(46.56%) in sane condition.CONCLUSION:Obviously,?-sheet turned into ?-turn.-CH_2 and-CH groups of ketones and alkanes engaged in A?_(1-42) molecular change.
